HUMAN SUNDIAL & other SCULPTURES

SUMMARY
There are several interesting sculptures that are well worth inspecting in the Kingston SE area.
The sculptures were done by the world reknown artist SILVIO APPONYI in granite found in this area and were done onsite and this activity created quite an attraction while the works were in progress.
Those of you who know just how hard granite is will appreciate the finished sculptures.

MULLOWAY
Sylvio did this sculpture in recognition of all the work that the Lions club has done in the surrounding park and because the Lions Club is the main organiser of the surf beach fishing contest held each year. As you can guess the mulloway is the most elusive and therefore one of the most sought after species in the contest.
It is in the Lions Park near the jetty.

SEALION
From time to time Kingston SE has the pleasure of a visit from sealions. It is believed that they come ashore to rest up after being involved in a storm. Sometimes they stay on the beaches for a week or so and then continue their journey.
It can be found on the small island near the main highway and behind the information bay.

HUMAN SUNDIAL
The human sundial is only one of a few in the world that are truly interactive with the tourists. By reading the directions and standing in the correct place the time of day can be determined. Each piece of granite represents an hour marker.
This is also found on the small island in the tidal creek on the main highway on the egde of town.
